You may have noticed that wallpaper has been very popular in the last few years in the interior design world. I have recently been using stencils instead of wallpaper in my projects and wanted to share some of my ideas an resources. You may think of the most hideous country pastel stencils that Aunt Helen had in her guest room that make you grind your teeth, but I am talking about using stencils in a fresh way. It can really change the look of a room without having to paint the entire space!
You can buy pre-designed stencils online and create your own color schemes and even mix stencils to achieve an even more custom look. There are so many great resources now for some really amazing an unique stencils. One of my favorites is RoyalDesignStudio because they have a large variety of designs with lots of ethnic influences. StencilGallery , DresslerStencils , and DesignerStencils also have some really fun designs as well.

You can use stencils in so may ways!
Ceilings and walls…
Architectural features like arches, doorways and openings…
Make your own stencils! Create some great drama in a room by making them really over-scaled in bright colors or geometric shapes.
You can buy stencil making kits to create your own designs.
Use stencils on the risers of a plain stairwell, and voila! You have the look of a very custom and chic stairwell without breaking the bank.

Create a unique floor by using stencils on your wood or concrete floors.

I hope some of these ideas have both changed your mind about stencils, and also inspired you!

Great idea! I especially love the scale of the lemony yellow stencil on the feature wall of that 2nd space.
